You’ve probably heard about the positive effects of CBD (cannabidiol) in treating various diseases or alleviating symptoms in humans. There are many studies on the subject, and CBD products are increasingly recognized in several countries. But did you know that CBD oil can also help dogs or cats with certain health issues? In this article, you’ll learn what CBD oil for dogs is and how it can relieve animals.
What is CBD oil for dogs and what is it made from?
The term cannabidiol is easily associated with cannabis, commonly known as marijuana. It is essential to understand that there are two main types of this plant:
Hashish hemp – What we commonly refer to as marijuana is Hashish hemp (or Cannabis indica). It contains CBD but also has a high concentration of THC, the compound responsible for making people “high.”
Industrial hemp – The second plant is industrial hemp (also known as Cannabis sativa). It also contains CBD but has minimal or no THC content. This allows us to extract the maximum benefits of CBD without the negative effects of intoxication.
CBD oil for dogs (and humans) is made from industrial hemp.

Effects of CBD on dogs
The discovery of the endocannabinoid system in both humans and animals is relatively recent. This system plays an essential role in regulating appetite, immunity, communication between cells, and much more. Through this system, active cannabis compounds (cannabinoids) interact with the body’s biological system.
This system and the effects of CBD still require significant research. Various studies have been conducted, although most are focused on the use of cannabidiol in humans. There have been two main studies on animals, specifically dogs. A 2018 study examined the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of CBD on dogs with osteoarthritis. In 80% of the dogs, their mobility improved, and pain was reduced. A second study in 2019 researched the effects of CBD on dogs suffering from seizures.
Despite the limited number of studies, it is already known that CBD oil has proven positive effects on dogs suffering from separation anxiety, digestive issues, epilepsy, neuropathic pain, inflammation, and more. CBD oil also helps promote restful sleep, stimulates appetite, and harmonizes biological processes in a dog’s body.
In our e-shop, you can find Herbforce CBD oil for dogs, made from industrial hemp, which has no psychoactive effects. The recommended dosage is 0.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight.
CBD oil has a broad spectrum of use not only for dogs or cats suffering from health issues. We recommend it for all dogs, whether athletes, working dogs, puppies, or seniors. Every dog or cat deserves mental well-being and a healthy body.
Side effects of CBD in dogs
Cannabidiol is a safe substance with no severe adverse effects reported so far. However, some mild side effects have been observed, particularly dry mouth. Dogs taking CBD oil may exhibit increased thirst and a greater need to drink.
Another observed symptom is an increase in alkaline phosphatase. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a liver enzyme, and elevated levels indicate something irritating the liver cell membrane. According to experts, such an increase in ALP in dogs is common and is only addressed by veterinarians if ALP levels are extremely high.
CBD for dogs is still the subject of ongoing research, so expect updates to this article as new information becomes available.
